Fun with Wikis

One of the cool lesser-known features of the Roleplay Online message board is that, in addition to using it as a place to run a campaign, you can also set up a wiki for your particular group. For a game set in a universe as vast as Marvel, a wiki is a great way to keep track of all the characters, objects, and locations that players may interact with throughout the course of a campaign.

Marvel Heroic Roleplaying is unique in that, unlike most roleplaying games, players are encouraged to step into the shoes of established and well-known characters (Spider-Man, for example) rather than playing as their own original heroes. The game certainly allows for that latter option, though (And that may just be the subject of a future post...).

There are so many different versions of the Marvel Universe already, and since the world of an MHR campaign may be both familiar and different to the players, there is often a need to establish what exactly is the same and what players should expect to be different. How old is this version of Spider-Man, exactly? Is he with Mary Jane, Gwen Stacy, or one of his many other flames? Are we going with the classic web-shooters, or is this stuff coming out of his wrists?

To help deal with just these kinds of questions, Marvel Mania recently got its own wiki which you can visit here. It will be a place to catalog the histories of the many characters, and what happens to them over the course of the campaign. There isn't much content there yet, but it will be added to gradually in the coming months.

As for how exactly one might go about setting up their own wiki on Roleplay Online, stay tuned!
